About SolSoft
SolSoft is a small, independent blog about desktop software for Windows and Mac. I test programs on my own machines, write up what actually happens when you install and use them, and point you toward the download when I think a tool earns it. No paid placements dressed up as reviews, no “top 10” lists padded with junk to fill a page.

- Hands-on reviews of everyday desktop apps: media players, PDF tools, backup utilities, screen recorders, file managers, disk cleaners and the like.
- Free alternatives to expensive paid software, with honest notes on where the free option falls short.
- How-to and fix-it guides for the annoying stuff: an installer that will not run, a program that crashes on launch, a setting buried three menus deep, a Windows update that broke something.
- Version notes when an app changes in a way that matters, for better or worse.
How I test
Every program I write about gets installed and used before I say anything about it. I run Windows and macOS on separate machines so I can tell you when a Mac build behaves differently from the Windows one. If a tool bundles extra software during setup, or nags you toward a paid upgrade, or quietly phones home, I say so. If I could not get something working, I tell you that too rather than pretending.
About the downloads
Wherever possible I link to the developer’s own site so you get the clean, current installer straight from the source. SolSoft does not repackage installers or wrap them in extra downloaders. If a program is no longer available from its maker, I will say where I found it and what the risks are.
Who writes this
SolSoft is a one-person project run by someone who has spent years fixing computers and trying too many programs. It is not a company and not a marketing channel for any vendor. If I get something wrong, tell me and I will correct it.
